Arriving on May 6, otherwise known as Free Comic Book Day, is a prequel story to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This slice of adventure is set to pit both Peter and Miles against a “new Super Villain whose jambitoto link alternatif powers they [don]t understand.” That villain being The Hood. Not only that, but during open-world gameplay, players will be able to freely swap between Peter Parker and Miles Morales at the touch of a button, akin to GTA 5’s character-swapping feature. Jefferson is lauded for his heroism at a re-election event for Mayor Norman Osborn. The Demons attack the event, killing Jefferson and many other attendees. Peter witnesses Martin Li transforming into their leader, Mister Negative, but is knocked unconscious before he can intervene. Following the attack, Norman hires Silver Sablinova and Sable International to supplant the police. Peter befriends Jefferson’s son, Miles Morales, and persuades him to volunteer at F.E.A.S.T.

None of that’s necessarily a dealbreaker, though—the real problem is the characters. On the whole it’s a tried and true set-up for a Spider-Man story—the perils of leading a double life, making sacrifices to do the right thing, all that jazz. But that does also mean it’s a story we’ve seen an awful lot of times before, not only across films, TV, and comics, but also in the previous two games in this series. That being said, I can’t help but have hoped for a few more flashes of Gotham City to make their way into New York. That’s not to say there aren’t benefits to taking a sneaky route, though, especially when you’re playing as Miles and using his invisibility power to quietly take out enemies.

The only villains we get are Kraven, Venom, Sandman, The Lizard, and Mysterio (kind of). They set up The Chameleon and Carnage but they don’t actually do anything. And that’s not even mentioning side characters like Silver Sable who easily could’ve returned in some capacity. With the small exception of a Mister Negative boss fight, but he doesn’t do anything until that point. And I applaud them for trying to use new characters; however, it came at the cost of a cohesive universe.
