While the situation quickly grows more dire, Peter is trapped within a massive symbiote cocoon that Miles and a repentant Martin are unable to free him from with conventional methods. Martin decides to use the full extent of his photogenic powers, aided by Miles, who taps into his own formidable bioelectric abilities to free Peter, with Martin completely and seemingly permanently expending his powers in the process.

The world’s most iconic web-slinging Super Hero is back in action in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PlayStation 5, with Peter Parker and Miles Morales teaming up to stop a new threat to Marvel’s New York. Though Peter successfully saved Manhattan from Doctor Octopus and his Sinister Six in 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, he’s going to need all the help he can get to save the day this time, even with Miles holding his own. Peter’s personal life will also be tested, just as the young hero made major strides in balancing both aspects of his persona, especially his rekindled romance with Mary Jane Watson. The very best of these feel just as tightly crafted and important to the overall story as some of the main missions. In Miles Morales’ long list of suits, you’ll spot one eerily familiar one called Best There Is. The suit’s name is a reference to the popular Wolverine quote from the comics, “I’m the best there is at what I do, but what I do isn’t very nice”.

From twiping my first web to unlocking that mighty Platinum trophy, my time with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 clocked in around 28 hours. The time spent purely on the main story I estimate came in around the 19 hours mark, and that’s a play-through done at a fairly leisurely pace. Performance mode is where level-of-detail transitions from these imposters to 3D building, trees and even grass at close range can fade into existence more obviously.

Investigating Kraven, Peter discovers he is hunting super-powered individuals in search of an “equal”. Having already killed Scorpion, Vulture, Shocker, and Electro, Kraven attempts to capture Black Cat. However, Miles helps her escape to Paris by using the mystical Wand of Watoomb. She is back in Spider-Man 2 to give Peter (and this time, Miles) trouble, which is only exacerbated by the fact that Pete and Felicia previously dated.

On October 15, 2023, a launch trailer was released, revealing Sandman and showing a first glimpse at Dr. Curt Connors, the Lizard’s human alter-ego. On Twitter (now ‘X’), Mark Whitten revealed that he will be playing as Connors. Peter and Miles begin the game wearing the Advanced Suit 2.0 and Upgraded Suit respectively. Peter later gains the Black Suit after his first fight with Kraven, which grants cosmetic changes such as turning his webbing black. And while it’s impossible to properly dig into why this is so special here without spoiling some pretty key narrative beats, know that it is special. Spider-Man 2 picks up the story after Miles Morales while introducing Venom, Kraven the Hunter, and other familiar villains. In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we’re nearly doubling the size of Marvel’s New York. Expanding beyond the East River, you’ll swing and soar over iconic landmarks across Queens and Brooklyn – complete with story missions, side quests, and city activities! This expansion also means even faster traversal options such as the Web Wings, which can be combined with traditional web swinging to move at exhilarating speeds.

“When you play in Queens, there’s much more of a neighborhood feel, smaller buildings, which is why the web wings work so well traversing in that area, where you can swing low to the ground if you want to, or you can fly through.” With the symbiote bonded to him, Peter gains new and unique offensive abilities that combine his newfound aggression with slimy tentacles and painful takedowns. “The Symbiote punch is gonna really impact a single target [and] stick them to walls, whereas the Symbiote strike launches a bunch of enemies up in the air. And so that’s something that lets you shift gears in Spider-Man combat,” Smith said to IGN.

First shown in the game’s initial trailer six months before the story starts, Kraven is seen investigating where to begin his next hunt, settling on Manhattan and its countless powered people. With the hero still being young, he has gotten quite a drastic age-up, sporting a new hairdo and a new outlook on life, as he prepares to apply to college. Miles shows off a handful of new Spidey powers for the Harlem hero as players get to unleash new kinds of damage on all sorts of bad guys in Miles’ path.
